The health and safety of our members is very important to the Juneau Ski Club.


We continue to monitor the CDC, State and CBJ municipal health guidelines, and our governing body US Ski and Snowboard Association requirements. The Operations Plan for the Juneau Ski Club uses known best practices that support physical distancing, sanitization of surfaces, reduced physical points of contact between all persons, and the use of masks when physical distancing is not an option. JSC has also instituted program specific changes to decrease the probability of transmission of COVID-19 during our activities and to support the Eaglecrest Ski Area COVID-19 Phased Operations Plan (Link Below) During this constantly evolving pandemic, JSC will continue to adjust the protocols as necessary to keep our members safe and healthy.


Here is what to expect:


  • Face masks:

    • When indoors, face masks are required at all times.

    • When outdoors, face masks are required when members are within six feet of one another. Face masks are not required during training when members are more than six feet apart.

    • When carpooling, we strongly encourage face masks to be worn when traveling with anyone outside your immediate household.

    • Face masks should be double layered. Wearing ONLY a buff or warming face mask is not sufficient. Buffs or warming masks may be pulled up over face masks.


  • Health screenings:

Mite Mites, DEVOs, Juniors, and FreeRide athletes will sign the Athlete COVID-19 Disclosure Form during registration.


  • Ensuring health protocols are met:

    • JSC Coaches will track and enforce compliance.

    • JSC Coaches agree to the COVID-19 JSC Staff Protocol (include hyperlink – next page).

    • JSC Coaches will review best practices with athletes as needed.


  • Exposure to COVI-19 and returning to activity after testing COVID-19 positive:

JSC will follow CDC, State, Municipal, and US Ski and Snowboard  guidelines already mandated for exposure to COVID-19. 


  • JSC facilities:

    • The Race Room, Finish Shack, and B Frame will be closed to the general membership. Staff, Coaches, Race Officials, and key Eaglecrest Personnel will be able to access the facilities. Coach accompanied athletes in small groups may be allowed in the Race Room and Finish Shack for limited times and on a pre-arranged basis to warm up during cold or wet weather periods and for video analysis. Adherence to the face mask requirement, 6 foot spacing, and cleaning of the common area upon exit is mandatory.

    • Hand sanitizer, wipes, gloves, and masks will be available for use immediately upon entering/exiting the facility.

    • Members will not be allowed to store their ski gear, day gear, or change in the Race Room. JSC and Eaglecrest encourage families to use your vehicle as your locker.

    • JSC will consider a tent outside the Race Room with heat lamps for warmth as necessary.


  • Daily training:

    • JSC groups will meet the coaches outside.

    • JSC will strive to maintain 6-8 athletes per group.


Eaglecrest is in Phase 3 Operations.

Phases of operations will evolve throughout the season based on the COVID-19 Risk Metric Rating determined by the City and Borough of Juneau’s Emergency Operations Center. The Risk Metric Rating fluctuates based on infection rates per 100,000 population and is updated daily by 5:00 PM.
